Professional wrestling promoter Jerry Jarrett, 80, has passed away.

Jerry Jarrett is quite proud of his son Jeff’s success in the WWE.

The father of WWE legend Jeff Jarrett, Jerry Jarrett, died on Tuesday, according to a WWE press release. He was 80.

When Jarrett left the NWA in 1977 to start the Continental Wrestling Association with Jerry “The King” Lawler, he was a well-known talent in the NWA’s Mid-America zone. The United States Wrestling Association was established in 1998 following the merger of numerous regional wrestling associations.

Lawler was able to successfully oust Jarrett as president of the USWA in 1997. The organization went under during the “Monday Night Wars” when WWE and WCW went head to head.

Jeff Jarrett left WWE while his star was on the rise to become a major player in the last days of WCW. The Jarrett brothers created NWA-TNA as a rival organization after WWE acquired WCW (later Total Nonstop Wrestling, now Impact Wrestling).

After having a falling out with the company’s management in 2005, Jarrett resigned and sold his interests to Panda Energy. Remember A.J. Styles, Xavier Woods, and Bobby Roode if you want to know WWE’s future. Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, and the Young Bucks were among the AeW superstars in attendance.

The wrestling community rallied around the Jarretts after the news broke.
